Easter Services
We love celebrating Easter. It is the most important celebration of the Christian year and we really want to share that with everyone!
Below you will find a descriptions of the services happening this Easter at St. Mary's and we look forward to welcoming you soon!
Stations of the Cross
Wednesday 15th March 2023 7:30pm
The Stations of the Cross service at St Mary's is a beautiful and meaningful experience. The church will be filled with artwork made by the children from the local school, which will bring a unique and special atmosphere to the service. Each piece of art depicts a moment from Jesus' journey to the cross. As we progress through the fourteen stations we can feel the emotion and sorrow of Jesus' journey. It is a truly powerful and thought-provoking experience.
Stations of the Cross will also be available everyday from the 13-18th March. Check out the poster for more details.
Palm Sunday
2nd April 2023 10am
A Palm Sunday service is a celebration of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. It marks the beginning of Holy Week, which is when Christians remember the sacrifice Jesus made for all people. During the service, participants wave palm branches and sing hymns of praise to God as we walk around the church grounds to symbolise Jesus' triumphant entry.
It's a powerful reminder of Jesus' love for us and the incredible gift He gave us through His death and resurrection. The service often ends with the congregation singing, "Hosanna in the highest!" to remind us of Jesus' victory over death.

Maundy Thursday
Thursday 6th April 2023 7:30pm
Maundy Thursday is a special service celebrated within the Christian faith. It is a solemn occasion when people remember the Last Supper - the meal Jesus shared with his disciples before his death. During Maundy Thursday services, prayers are offered in remembrance of Jesus’ death and resurrection. The service includes readings from the Bible, hymns and special music, and a ritual washing of feet to symbolize the humility of Jesus and his disciples. We also perform the ceremonial stripping of the altar in preparation for Good Friday.
Maundy Thursday services are a powerful reminder of Jesus’ love and sacrifice, and can be a meaningful way to commemorate his life and ministry.
Good Friday
Friday 7th April 2023 2pm
A Good Friday service is a meaningful Christian ceremony that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It typically includes readings from the Bible, prayers, hymns, and other songs of worship. The service is often solemn and reflective in nature as participants contemplate Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for mankind. The service ends with a special blessing from the priest. Good Friday services are a powerful way to remember and honour Jesus’ death, and to celebrate the hope of His resurrection.
Dawn Service on Easter Day
Sunday 9th April 2023 6am
An Easter Day dawn service is a beautiful and special way to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We begin before the sunrise, with the singing of joyful hymns and readings from the Bible. Guests are often welcomed with a basket of hot cross buns, and a spread of hot bacon sandwiches is usually served at the conclusion of the service.
The bacon sandwiches, along with the singing and fellowship, provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere that helps to make the Easter Day dawn service a truly memorable event.
