Ash Wednesday

5th March 2025 7pm

An Ash Wednesday Service in the Church of England marks the beginning of Lent, a season of repentance, reflection, and preparation for Easter. The service typically includes prayers, Bible readings, a sermon, and an act of penitence. A key feature is the imposition of ashes, where the sign of the cross is made on worshippers’ foreheads using ashes made from the previous year’s Palm Sunday crosses, accompanied by the words: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ." The service encourages humility, self-examination, and a renewed commitment to God.

A Palm Sunday service is a celebration of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. It marks the beginning of Holy Week, which is when Christians remember the sacrifice Jesus made for all people. During the service, participants wave palm branches and sing hymns of praise to God as we walk around the church grounds to symbolise Jesus' triumphant entry.
